The cast and crew have been busy rehearsing and putting the finishing touches on their performance for opening night on October 25.
The group will put on a musical based on the 1908 novel Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. The production will tell the story of orphan girl Anne Shirley and the new life she forges for herself living at Green Gables. The musical will open on October 25 and run until November 9 at Mittagong Playhouse. Book your tickets online at htg.org.au.
Time to meet the cast:
Caitlyn Ollis will play the lead Anne Shirley. The 15-year-old will wow audiences in her debut performance with the Highlands Theatre Group. The young performer has always been interested in theatre and music but has limited experience. While rather shy Caitlyn is known to be spontaneous, humorous, loud and strong willed. Caitlyn said her personality "comes with my red hair". She never expected to perform in a musical but fell in love with the character Anne at an early age. When the opportunity arose to bring her beloved Anne to life she jumped at it. She said she was equally excited and terrified to perform but was sure it would help her build confidence. Caitlyn has a good sense of humour and said she would laugh at most things - even those that weren't funny.
Michael Garner will play Gilbert Blythe. Michael found himself drawn to theatre while he studied science at university. Since then he has performed in multiple shows across different companies including Alice in Wonderland, Rent and Beauty and the Beast. Michael is a seasoned performer for Highlands Theatre Group appearing in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Ladies in Black.
Maddie Maronese has been cast as Diana Barry. After a three-year hiatus Maddie has jumped back into the world of theatre. She has been involved in Sydney shows and Southern Highlands productions. Outside of musical theatre, Maddie is a music student at the University of Wollongong. The performer also works as a vocal teacher.
Mark Wallace will play Matthew Cuthbert. It may have taken the best part of nine years but Mark said he finally "got off my backside and auditioned" for a role in Ladies in Black earlier this year. Ladies in Black was his first major part since he played Charlie in the 1984 production of The Harp in the South with The Moss Vale Players. Mark was a regional finalist with Crash Test Drama this year. He has worn many hats over the years, from journalist to photographer and business owner. His other great passion is coaching junior rugby and cheering for the Wallabies. Mark is an animal lover and said nothing made him laugh more than his Jack Russell Terrier.
Come along for a great show by the Southern Highlands' oldest theatre group.
