'It's heartbreaking and demoralising'; Why one teacher went on strike
Teachers across the Highlands and Tablelands walked off the job on May 4, in protest of better working conditions. NSW Teachers Federation representative and Southern Tablelands teacher Patrick Kennedy said he wanted to make the job better for current, and future teachers. "We're exhausted, we're worn out, and we'd like to be appreciated a bit more," he said.
Design works contract awarded for Mittagong Playhouse
Wingecarribee Shire Council has awarded the contract to undertake the detailed design works and submitted the Development Application for the restoration of the Mittagong Memorial Hall and Playhouse. The Development Application was lodged with the council via the NSW Government's Planning Portal in April and the detailed Design and Documentation Contract awarded to NBRS and Partners.

Darelle Ratcliff and daughters pass through Highlands on epic 500km fundraising trek for dementia research
A family have travelled hundreds of kilometres, and made their way through the Highlands for a cause that is close to their hearts. Darelle Ratcliff and two of her daughters, Ellie and Tayla, are embarking on a 17-day trek from the Sydney Harbour Bridge to her hometown of West Wyalong. The trio are raising awareness and funds for the Dementia Australia Research Foundation.
Whitlam MP and Liberal party ready to support regional newspapers
The Southern Highland News has asked candidates if they support regional newspapers. Whitlam MP Stephen Jones said papers were "critical" to tell local stories. It was previously revealed that newsprint prices were set to skyrocket on July 1 by 80 per cent.
