Peter Poole was determined to find a cure for blood cancers after he lost his mother-in-law to lymphoma, and his daughter-in-law was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma.

The Bundanoon resident was happy when he surpassed his $2000 goal, and raised $2400 for the World's Greatest Shave this year.

He said it is the most he has raised over out of six shaves over more than a decade.

"It's very important because I was touched personally by it," he said.

"I am always looking for something to get involved in."

Mr Poole, a member at the Exeter RFS, united with fellow members, and had a local hairdresser shave his head and beard at the station's quarters.

RFS members came together and contributed $620 to his overall amount when he shaved his head on March 16.

The message and story about his cause touched many, who also decided to donate.

His daughter, crime novelist Candice Fox, got creative and did a callout to her readers.

She said if they donated $10 to the cause, she would provide them with fictional plots and backstories, as if they were serial killers or detectives in a potential book.

This effort saw a further $600 raised for the cause.

Mr Poole was thankful that some businesses like the Potters Pantry Bundanoon and Bundanoon Butcher, and family members also contributed.

"I think it's a good cause and you can do what you can to find a cure," he said.

The Highlander started volunteering with the Cancer Council when he lived in Sydney, and drove cancer patients to Campbelltown Hospital for radiation treatment.

This was his third shave in the region.

Mr Poole estimated that he has raised about $8000 from doing shaves over the years.

For future fundraisers, he is considering colouring his hair or fashioning a goatee beard.
