Construction works began on improving the stormwater infrastructure on Braemar Avenue west of the old Hume Highway in November of last year.

Part of these works involved the construction of a temporary 'side-track' to allow traffic to continue to move around the immediate work area.

Heavy rain earlier in the week has made this side-track unsafe for vehicles and the temporary detour has subsequently been closed effective immediately.

Council is currently undertaking stabilisation works on this side-track to once again allow motorists to travel around the worksite. These works will take a number of days to safely complete.

While both Braemar Avenue and the side-track remain temporarily closed, motorists will be diverted through Willow Vale.

Due to site constraints only vehicles less than 3.2 metres in width will be able to access the side-track once re-opened.

Council is aware that Braemar Avenue is an important route for the Braemar industrial area, local residents and businesses and is working to have the detour re-opened in the coming week.

We apologise for the temporary delay and inconvenience caused to motorists and residents.

On completion this project is expected to significantly improve stormwater capacity and reduce the frequency of water flowing over the road during severe storms. The finished project will also see the road widened which will assist two-way traffic flow and improve pedestrian access.

Works are expected to be completed by March 2020. All timeframes are subject to weather conditions.
