Jemima Huggett was the school's top achiever for 2019. She secured five band six results, the highest a student can get, for Agricultural studies, Biology, Geography and Maths Standard two and a band five for Advanced English and an ATAR of 99.10.
She also received a band six for Earth and Environmental science, in which she came fourth in the state.
Moss Vale High School principal Patricia Holmes was happy with the results for Jemima and for the rest of the students at the school.
"We are extremely proud of Jemima. She's a great student who has worked really hard and she had to face some health issues this year so she hasn't done it easily but she has always been an incredibly committed student," she said.
"We're very very proud of her."
Jemima, who has already been accepted in to the University of Wollongong for Bachelor of Sustainable Communities said that she was very happy with her results.
"I was really really excited, I didn't have the greatest sleep last night so I was up quite early when the text came in and I ran straight in and I told my mum, my brother and my step dad. So I was really pleased," she said.
"My mum was really proud of me but she has always been proud of me as long as I put in my best effort and I've done the best that I can do.
Jemima chose to study a Bachelor of Sustainable Communities as it merged social science, geography and earth science in one degree.
"What appealed to me about this course was that it was really future ready in terms of putting sustainability in front of anything; in front of tourism, in front of agriculture, in front urban design and it's a whole new world of opportunities," Jemima said.
"I think the fact that it is so future ready and the fact that it is so environmentally conscious and bringing humans and the environment together is what attracted me to the course."
The schools distinguished achievers list also includes Javiera Diaz, Joel Hinchcliffe and Madeleine White who all achieved a band six in Music, Rebecca Harvey achieved a band six in Biology and Maths, Travis Neale achieved a band six in Music and Society and Culture and Ella Robertson achieved a band six in Legal Studies and society and culture.
Ms Holmes was happy with the overall good marks and results for this year's HSC
"We are proud of all them," she said.
"I'd like to congratulate our teachers as well because I know they put in a lot of hard work to get these students to where they are.
"There's definitely an increase in the number of distinguished achievers but our results have been going up significantly over the last five or six years.
"There has been a steady rise at Moss Vale High School and in 2017 we moved up 200 points in the state in HSC rankings among all the schools in the state."
This year Moss Vale High School moved from 346 in the state to 185. The school's success rate for students achieving band sixes is 8.93 per cent compared to the median average of 5.47 per cent.
