In a quest to help cancer sufferers Mark Barraclough has chosen to raise funds for the charity Rare Cancers Australia by setting off on his motorbike and riding across Australia.
The ride will begin from the most eastern point in Byron Bay, then he will head across to the westernmost point in Steep Point.
The trip crosses deserts and creeks and tackles our endless stretches of roads.
This trip that will take a month to complete.
"My wife's best friend died from a rare form of leukemia when she was just 30 years old," Barraclough said.
"To lose such a beautiful soul so young has made me feel we need to do more to help.
"This is why I am raising funds for Rare Cancers Australia, a charity helping the 52,000 Australians who are diagnosed with a rare or less common form of cancer each year."
A team of 12 riders and their support crew will mostly camp their way across the country each night. The motorbikes need to be dual purpose so they can go on and off road.
They're purposely light so they don't get stuck in the sand. It takes fitness to manoeuvre these bikes and Mark has been training hard for months by walking the hill up to Milton Park each day.
"I've calculated the height has been equivalent to climbing two Everests", Barraclough said.
