Singalong
Mittagong Uniting Church will hold its monthly singalong on October 22 in the Church commencing 1.30pm. Everyone is welcome and afternoon tea is served after the singing. Melbourne Cup
Moss Vale/Berrima Red Cross is holding a Melbourne Cup lunch at Moss Vale Golf Club on November 6. This will include a fashion parade featuring outfits from Whites. The event will begin at midday and tickets are $35 per person. Bookings close on October 30. Details: Zelda on 4868 1813.
Bazaar
The Mittagong Seniors Club will hold a fundraiser bazaar on October 30 from 10.30am - 1.30pm. This event will be held at the senior’s centre in Queen Street, Mittagong, next to the library. The kindergarten children from Mittagong Primary School will come to sing to us at 11.45pm. Table profits will be shared with their classes for new equipment. Devonshire Tea and cakes will be served from 10.30am. Everyone's welcome.
Community gardens
The Moss Vale Community Gardens will be trialling a morning opening on the first Sunday of each month, commencing on November 4 from 10.00am to 1.00pm. This is a great opportunity for families to visit the gardens and learn about environmentally sustainable gardening practices, or just enjoy wandering around our organically grown fruit and vegetable beds. Plants, jams, chutneys and eco wraps will be available for sale. Looking forward to seeing you at the gardens located in Railway Street, Moss Vale, (next to the tennis courts).
Evening CWA
The next meeting of the Southern Highlands Evening Branch, CWA NSW will be held on November 1 at the Mittagong CWA Rooms, Winifred West Park, Old Hume Highway, Mittagong, at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start. New members, young and old are very welcome. This month is the branch birthday dinner with everyone asked to bring a plate of food for supper. Guest speaker will be Annette Lane who will talk about orchids. The branch is dynamic/informal, offers a wide variety of activities and fellowship for all members (remember age is no barrier). Toastmasters
The Southern Highlands Toastmasters meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at Mittagong RSL Club from 7.30pm. Come and learn how to speak in public in a relaxed environment. Details: Colin Emerson on 0429 389 744.
Morning tea and support
Every Friday morning between 10am and midday the foyer of the Mittagong Anglican Church is open to the public for free morning. The church’s professional barista knows how to make one of the best coffees in town. A professional counsellor offering free support to those who might want to talk privately is also available. Come and join the group and make new friends in a relaxed and warm environment. St. Stephens Church is on the corner of Station and Main Streets and has been reaching out to the community for more than 140 years.
Tai Chi
Test you strength and agility with Tai Chi classes held at the Mittagong Senior’s Club located next to the Mittagong Library. Classes are held each Tuesday from 1pm.
Seniors' Club
Mittagong Seniors’ Club meets each Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 2.30pm at the Community Centre in Queen Street, Mittagong. Come for morning tea at 10am to learn more. Activities include craft, games, ukulele and various outings.
Bible lessons
Casual, flexible and free seminars on learning to read the Bible effectively are available at the Loseby Park community hall each Sunday from 9.15am to 10.15am. The Highlands Christadelphians currently offer a continuous series of seminars designed to help people learn how to understand the Bible for themselves. No attempt is made to teach doctrines. This is more like a "How To" guide with hints on how to allow the Bible to interpret itself. The small group currently attending includes people from 18 to about 50 years of age. It is informal, and participants are invited to contribute their questions, or simply listen to the others. All are welcome. No bookings are necessary. Come and go as you wish. Bushwalkers
Southern Highlands Bushwalkers Inc will head to Blakeman’s Lookout in Kangaroo Valley on October 28. This is an easy walk to Blakemans Trig visiting the Hole in Wall and Faulks Lookout with views over Barrengarry Creek.It will cover about 9km for the return trek.
