They first met when they studied ceramic, art and design in Cape Town, and both moved independently to Sydney in the 1980s.

A chance meeting at the time renewed their friendship, and began their artistic collaborations.

Their latest joint venture is the Line of Latitude II exhibition at the Bowral Art Gallery, which was officially opened on April 6, by artist and printmaker Tony Ameneiro.

The exhibition draws on the experiences and memories between Sydney and Cape Town, and the cultures that have influenced them.

Ms Wright uses clay to respond to the landscape and for body decorations within Indigenous cultures, which she has worked with in Africa and Australia.

"I hope my work suggests to and encourages viewers to make their own interpretation to take their own personal journey, whilst meandering around my work and their forms and surfaces," she said.

Ms Meredith embraces moments and memories, and responds to landscapes through drawings, paintings and collages.

"I use colour, shape, form in an intuitive way, in a variety of media and processes," she said.

"I draw inspiration from reality and memories of places, from my early years in Africa, across the line of latitude to Australia."

Mr Ameneiro said he was "struck" by the artists' abilities to communicate shared landscapes, travels and experiences.

"Both artists work from a memory bank of forms, shapes and patterns inspired by locations both past and present, places real and imagined, cultures indigenous and non-Indigenous," he said.

People can see the exhibition until April 16 and the gallery is open daily from 10am to 4pm.

It will be followed by the annual Blue Square exhibition, which raises funds for Can Assist Southern Highlands.

It will feature a collection of mixed media works that incorporate blue.

It will open at 6pm on April 19.
