HSC English Seminar with Larry Grumley

Author and HSC exam marker Larry Grumley will offer students tips and feedback to prepare for their HSC English exams. It is free to attend and bookings can be made through Trybooking.

This celebration of Youth Week will entail an afternoon of cricket, a jumping castle, a SmashLab and a free barbecue lunch. It is a chance for young people to make friends, celebrate their talents, and have fun. The event was designed by the council's youth committee, Community Links and Wellbeing, and the Highlands Community Centre. It is free. Head to Eventbrite to book.

Ordinary meeting of council

Different issues in the Highlands will be discussed at this meeting, which will be livestreamed on the Wingecarribee Shire Council website. The minutes and agenda will be posted on the council's website closer to the date.

Volunteering opportunities through Volwing

People can make a difference in the community, learn new skills and make friends through Volwing - the volunteer resource organisation in the Highlands. Available positions cater to a variety of interests. They include teaching learners to drive, serving food, being a reading assistant at a primary school, and more. Royal Society Southern Highlands: lecture with Professor Fred Watson AM

Astronomer-at-large Fred Watson AM will talk about NASA's James Webb telescope and its mission, images and relationship to other space facilities. He worked at Britain's Royal Observatories before joining the Australian Astronomical Observatory in 1995. Nowadays, he is known for his books, Space Nuts podcast, music and advocacy. All are welcome.

Craft meet-ups

People can bring along a craft project and chat with others in the hall. It does not matter what type of craft it is, and people can come along and just chat and have a cuppa.

Yerrinbool Railway Garden

People in the Highlands are invited to explore this garden, and help maintain it whenever they can. The community garden was founded by volunteers who wanted to grow healthy and fresh produce. There is also a mini market on the fourth Saturday of the month.

Grab fresh produce, plants, organic sourdough breads and more, which are made and grown in the Highlands.

Crop Swap Robertson

Exchange crops, plants and magazines at this weekly meet-up. People do not have to come with crops to take anything from the table. No money is exchanged. All are welcome.

Gunamaragang Burraay Djindjingara (Little Child Stars) Playgroup

Community Links has established an Aboriginal-focused playgroup called Gunamaragang Burraay Djindjingara, which translates to Little Child Stars in Dharawal. The playgroup will focus on day-to-day activities and host cultural events and celebrations, which involve the broader community and showcase the richness of Aboriginal culture.
