Wingecarribee Shire Council candidate information sessions
- April 10, Council Chambers, 3.30-5.30pm
This session is for residents who are interested in being a part of the council's new civic leadership team, and explains the local government system. It will be led by local government leader, general manager and administrator John Rayner PSM. It is free to attend and people can book a spot through Trybooking.
Justice of the Peace
Justice of the Peace volunteers will be at the following locations to help people with documentation weekly. It is a free service.
- Springett's Arcade: Wednesdays from 10am to 1pm
- The Jellore room at the Wingecarribee SC administration building: Thursdays from 10am to 1pm
- Mittagong Market Place: Saturdays from 10am to 1pm
Mobile Community Recycling Centre
Wingecarribee Shire Council's free mobile community recycling centre stops in many of the towns and villages. This week, it will stop at Mittagong Oval on April 10, from 8.45am to 12.30pm. Household waste is limited to 20 litres or kilograms per customer per drop off.
Items that can be collected include:
- Small household and automotive batteries
- Waste oils
- Smoke alarms
- Cardboard
- Styrofoam
- Fluorescent lights
- X-rays
- Writing instruments
- Empty gas bottles
- Fire extinguishers
- Mobile phones
- Ink cartridges
Bowral South Living Area Community Consultation
- April 12 (5.30-7.30pm) and 13 (10am-12pm), Loseby Park Community Centre
The community can have their say on the Bowral South Living Area. It is one of six new living areas identified in the council's Local Housing Strategy, which was adopted in July, 2021. It is now time to implement the strategy by preparing a Master Plan and Servicing Strategy for infrastructure. They are free to attend. Book a spot through Trybooking: April 12 and April 13.
NSW Mobile Service Centre visits the Highlands
People in the Highlands can get access to a variety of government services including vehicle registrations, rebates and concessions, births, deaths and marriages and more.
It will be at the following locations on these days:
- Hampden Park, Robertson: April 15 from 11am to 3pm
- Moss Vale Services Club car park: April 16 from 10am to 3pm
- Railway Avenue, Bundanoon: April 18 from 10am to 3pm
Help others
Donate blood
Lifeblood, which is run by the Australian Red Cross, is making its way to the Bowral Swimming Centre from April 8 to 13.
Check out the times below:
- April 8: 10am-3pm
- April 9 and 10: 12-6pm
- April 11 and 12: 10am-4pm
- April 13: 10am-1.30pm
People can book a time to donate through lifeblood.com.au/blood, or by calling 13 14 95.
Volunteering opportunities through Volwing
People can make a difference in the community, learn new skills and make friends through Volwing - the volunteer resource organisation in the Highlands. Available positions cater to a variety of interests. They include teaching learners to drive, greeting tourists at museums, serving food, being a reading assistant at a primary school, and more. Youth Week
Youth Week has been created and developed by young people in the Highlands, through collaborations with the council. All the events are free and aim to connect youth with like-minded people through different activities.
See them below:
- Screening of Ghost Busters: Frozen Empire: April 12 at the Empire Cinemas from 4.30pm. It is only for 12 to 18-year-olds and bookings can be made through Eventbrite.
- Italian Cooking Class: April 15 from 9.30am to 1pm at The Community Cooking School in Bowral. Book through Trybooking.
- Bush walk and picnic: April 16 from the Mansfield Reserve from 10am to 12.30pm. Lunch will be provided and council will contact people if they need transport. Suitable for 12 to 24-year-olds, book via Trybooking.
- Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire screening: April 19 from 6pm to 8.30pm at Empire Cinemas. A free drink and popcorn will be provided with each ticket. This is for people between the ages of 15 and 24. Book via Trybooking.
Meeting others
Craft meet-ups
- Every Friday, Yerrinbool Hall, 11am - 2pm
People can bring along a craft project and chat with others in the hall. It does not matter what type of craft it is, and people can come along and just chat and have a cuppa.
Yerrinbool Railway Garden
- Every Monday, Yerrinbool Railway Garden near the station, 10am-12pm
People in the Highlands are invited to explore this garden, and help maintain it whenever they can. The community garden was founded by volunteers who wanted to grow healthy and fresh produce. There is also a mini market on the fourth Saturday of the month.
Activities at Mittagong Seniors
Mittagong Seniors hosts an array of activities at the Mittagong Senior Centre weekly. See the list below:
- Ukulele meet-up: Tuesday (9-11am) and Thursday (12.30-2pm)
- Board game sessions: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9.30 to 11.30am
- Line dancing: Tuesdays from 11.15am to 12.30pm
- Mature movers gentle exercise classes: Thursdays 9.30am to 10.30am

Ways to be greener
Railway Street fresh food and produce market
- Every Thursday, corner of Railway Street and Spring Street, 3-5.30pm
Grab fresh produce, plants, organic sourdough breads and more, which are made and grown in the Highlands.
Crop Swap Robertson
- Every Saturday, CTC Robertson, 9-10.30am
Exchange crops, plants and magazines at this weekly meet-up. People do not have to come with crops to take anything from the table. No money is exchanged. All are welcome.
An Aboriginal playgroup
Gunamaragang Burraay Djindjingara (Little Child Stars) Playgroup
- Every Thursday, Community Links Centre: 6 Harper Close, Tahmoor
Community Links has established an Aboriginal-focused playgroup called Gunamaragang Burraay Djindjingara, which translates to Little Child Stars in Dharawal. The playgroup will focus on day-to-day activities and host cultural events and celebrations, which involve the broader community and showcase the richness of Aboriginal culture.
