The 1.3 kilometre long section is and being named stage three, and would link to the first two stages of road works.
Council manager of project delivery Ned Tripkovic, said the main road had "decayed after such high volumes of traffic, and has therefore suffered from extreme usage and insufficient drainage over the years, which has imposed significant effort on council to maintain".
He said this new section was "not as dilapidated", but did raise maintenance concerns, and when repaired, would meet drivability and safety standards.
More council news:
Construction tender was awarded to Stefanutti Construction Pty Ltd in October, 2022 to rehabilitate 9.6 kilometres of the road between Merrigang Street and Bowral, to Aylmerton Road in Mittagong.
Stage two from Range Road to Aylmerton Road began in January, 2023, and stage one from Merrigang Street to Range Road commenced in May this year.
Mr Tripkovic said there had been "several unfavourable site conditions" such as finding unmapped Jemena gas mains and conditions worse than discovered, but the two stages were going well.
The work would be on track to be completed by November weather permitting, he said - five months earlier than initially planned.
The third stage would begin when the first stage was finished, and the would be completed by April or May in 2024.
Minutes from the July 19 ordinary meeting said the total budget allocation for the road, which included design and project management costs, was $18,670,902 without GST.
Based on estimates and schedules of rates, council had "sufficient funds" to repair the additional section, Mr Tripkovic said.
The document said it would be priced by Stefanutti Construction Pty Ltd "as a variation" to the current road contract, which would benefit council as costs and insurances would be reduced.
Authority to the general manager Lisa Miscamble to approve the variation to the contract with this additional stage was also passed.
Another passed motion was for a report attachment to be withheld from the media and public, as it related to "commercial information of a confidential nature that would, if disclosed, prejudice the commercial position of the person who supplied it".
