Moving to the Highlands in 2012, his is first impression of the club was the great camaraderie.
In the following years, divisions within the membership grew over time.
When he attended the 2017 AGM and witnessed an unpleasant atmosphere at the club board, he knew it was time to act.
After the resignation of that board, McDonald took the helm, working together with other unaffected members to form a new board with extensive business talents.
McDonald, always quick to shower everyone but himself with praise, started to turn things around.
With such a capable group, and a masterplan being developed for the club, the future looks secured.
Modest, community minded, kind and blessed with a big heart, his dry sense of humour always made time with him engaging and rewarding, but he wouldn't suffer fools either.
His second home was the club and his energy and commitment to improving it for the members and visitors has seen a transformation into one of the Highlands' emerging go to destinations.
Dearly loved, McDonald will be sorely missed and all those at the club wish to extend their deepest condolences to his wife Michelle, children Kate and Stuart, his extended family and friends.
