Australian Himalayan Foundation 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner
A unique celebration
The Australian Himalayan Foundation is celebrating 20 years of supporting people in remote areas. The foundation has raised about $15 million over that time to fund educational programs and facilities in in Bhutan, Nepal and Ladakh. Chair Simon Balderstone AM is stepping down as the founding chair and there will be entertainment and speakers on the night. Make your way to Doltone House in Hyde Park to celebrate the milestone on Wednesday, October 26 from 6.30pm to 11pm. Tickets are $250 and can be purchased through Humantix.
Behrouz Film
This week
This documentary tells the story of award-winning Kurdish journalist and writer Behrouz Boochani, and his life in detention and then as a free man. It is directed by Simon V Kurian. You can watch it at the Empire Cinemas on Wednesday, October 26 from 6.30pm. There will be a question and answer session with Mr Boochani an Mr Kurian afterwards. Tickets are $25 for general admission, $20 for seniors and $15 for students via Trybooking.
Mrs Harris Goes to Paris premiere night
A feel-good film
The Southern Highlands Evening (SHE) CWA branch is taking everyone to Paris for this feel-good movie screening. There will be refreshments on arrival, prizes for best dressed, raffles and entertainment by the Leesa Daniels Singing School. Head over to the Empire Cinemas on Thursday, October 27 at 5.45pm for a 6pm start. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the cinema. People can call Maryke on 0408 492 039 for more information.

Lots to discover
The Rural Australians for Refugees Southern Highlands is holding a garden fundraiser in a historic home. Immerse yourself in a five-acre garden, that has been rehabilitated with more than 35 native plants. Discover it all at the property known as "The Old Rectory" at 26 Wyatt Street in Moss Vale on Friday, October 28 from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Tickets are $20 per adult, $15 for pensioners and children can enter for free. Book via Trybooking. Refreshments and cake are included in the ticket. The organisers have advised that the grounds are uneven and are not suitable for wheelchairs.
Australian Highland Wine Awards Night
This week
Celebrate and sample award-winning wines in the region, produced 500 metres above sea level. Enjoy a glass of wine or bubbles on arrival with canapés. The annual award covers wineries in the Highlands, Orange, Canberra, Mudgee, Hilltops, New England, Tumbarumba and the Adelaide Hills. See if a local winery is declared a winner on Friday, October 28 at the Southern Highlands Winery from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Tickets are $60.50, which include the tastings, and can be purchased through southernhighlandsfestival.com.au.
Spring Plant and Produce sale
This weekend
A group of dedicated volunteers are holding a stall, full of unique and rare plants. You can speak to the growers about the what is suitable for your garden and there will be a Rosendale garden handcraft stall and coffee cart. Children can play at the playground. Head over to the Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens from 9am to 1pm on Saturday, October 29. Entry is free.

Bundanoon Garden Ramble

Explore eight stunning private gardens across Bundanoon this weekend, full of breathtaking displays and plants. Perhaps you might be inspired to add things to your garden. Each garden will have stalls and there will be a market in the Bundanoon Community Hall full of plants and art. You will also see scarecrows dotted around the town for the Lions Club's annual competition. Discover it all on Saturday, October 29 and Sunday, October 30 from 9.30am to 4.30pm. Mittagong Junior Disco Halloween dress-up

Children can strap on their dancing shoes and get groovy with their friends at the Mittagong Junior Disco. Spooky outfits are also welcome! Attendees will have the chance to win gift vouchers, which will be drawn on the night. They can dance at the Mittagong RSL, on Saturday, October 29 from 4pm to 6pm. Moonacres Seasonal Farm Experience

Taste seasonal produce, feel soil and learn about regenerative practices with Phil Lavers and James Ashwood at the Moonacres Farm. Get a hands-on experience with nurturing soil, bed preparations and harvest techniques. Learn it all on Tuesday, November 1 at the Moonacres School at 6-7, 79-81 Hoddle Street, Robertson at 9.15am. A bus will then take attendees to to the Moonacres Farm in Wildes Meadow at 9.30am. The bus will drop people back to the school at 11am for morning tea. Award-winning weaver Jennifer Robertson, who uses unique fibres such as quarts and titanium in her creations, brings her skills to this exhibition. Ceramics and furniture by Chris Robertson, Tom Skeehan, Katherine Mahoney and Timothy Robertson are also featured. See it at the Sturt Gallery until Sunday, November 13, from 10am to 5pm daily.
