Findings from the Ordinary Meeting of Council on July 20, revealed that a hoarding and vinyl wrap was installed in April this year.
This was as a result of the fire that destroyed businesses on July 1, 2021, on Bong Bong Street and Wingecarribee Street.
The fire and subsequent construction, has meant that nearby businesses have also been impacted and seen a reduction in foot traffic.
As part of the construction, which is 41 meters by 2.4 metres, part of the footpath has been covered, which has blocked views of shops for pedestrians.
Businesses were consulted about the hoarding in March, and expressed that there were less people coming to their stores.
"The hoarding was recently addressed with graphics designed to attract pedestrians to this part of the main street," said WSC's chief information officer John Crawford, as he read the findings.
A waiving of fees to enable shops to create an outdoor display was recommended and carried by administrator Viv May PSM, who said it was a "good idea".
It will include businesses on Bong Bong Street between the eastern side of Wingecarribee Street and Merrigang Street, and those on the northern side between Bong Bong Street, and Station Street.
It can include outdoor displays and dining settings.
"This activation would be seen from the street corner and encourage shoppers to proceed along the street, when they may otherwise be inclined not to walk beyond the hoarding," Mr Crawford said.
The fee waiver for the displays will be in place from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2024.
The recommendation for council to write to impacted businesses about an outcome of the report was also carried.
