Council backs community's name to change from Balmoral to Balmoral Village
Wingecarribee Shire council is going to submit a proposal to the Geographical Names Board to officially change the name of Balmoral to Balmoral Village. Administrator Viv May PSM carried the motion in the Ordinary Meeting of Council on July 20, to support the community's proposal to change the name.
Hume Police District set for boost to officer numbers while more rural investigators are also on the way
The Southern Highlands will soon be seeing more men and women in uniform after a boost to police numbers across the region. Hume Police District will receive 12 new officers as part of a state-wide push to increase numbers to 18,000, announced on July 18.

Flood relief on the way for Southern Highlands small business
Small businesses and not-for-profit (NFP) organisations affected by the June-July severe flooding and storms can now apply for up to $50,000 in support. Member for Wollondilly, Nathaniel Smith, said the grant would provide a much-needed lifeline to small businesses who have been hard hit by the floods across the 37 natural disaster-declared local government areas.
SHE CWA members send support to flood victims in Lismore with handmade rugs
A CWA branch in the Highlands and members of the community have woven their magic to help people in Lismore in the colder months. Locals and ladies from the Southern Highlands Evening (SHE) CWA knitted squares and joined them together to create eight rugs for the Lismore Evening CWA branch. These have been distributed to people coping with the aftermath of the floods.
