The outstanding election results sees the Greens with four seats in the House of Representatives and three new Senators, bringing the total to 12, ensuring that the Greens remain the major third force in Australian politics.
This is the strongest vote ever for the Australian Greens. Over 500,000 people in NSW voted for David Shoebridge to enter the Senate. After a decade or more in the NSW Upper House David will be a great asset to the Senate team.
After all the hard work of the election campaign, and the years of lockdowns and COVID this was a wonderful opportunity to get together in a relaxed social atmosphere and have some fun.
10 pin bowlers ranging from babes to seniors enjoyed the games, many never having bowled before. Many strikes were achieved, new acquaintances made and older ones reinforced. A win-win-win situation. We were bowled over.
Co-convenors Maree Byrne and Heather Champion led the way.
"It's so great to be able to get out and meet new members and supporters who came forward and volunteered during the campaign, " said Heather.
"This event is a fun way to interact and learn a little bit more about one another. To put faces to names and personally thank people for their contribution. It is a great sign for the Greens, and for changing community attitudes when volunteers come out of the woodwork at such a crucial time.
"The huge turnout of volunteers who joined the Greens movement this year shows our community is looking for more hopeful politic."
"I have never 10 pin bowled before or if I have it was so long ago!" Maree said.
"It has been great fun, gentle exercise, laughter, conversation and celebrating together. To see people of all ages enthusiastically enjoying themselves is a great reward.
"As recent newcomers to the Southern Highlands, the Greens event was a wonderful opportunity to meet with like minded community members who care about our country heading in a progressive direction. we look forward to future events," member Ross explained.
