Like many parts of the Southern Highlands, the Bowling Club experienced rising floodwaters last week with the green submerged and the clubhouse threatened.
But a decision to install a drainage system back in the 1990s paid off with head greenkeeper Josh Woodcock confirming it was the first time in three decades the back green had been flooded.
"All three greens had been flooded with 275mm rain falling from the Saturday night (March 5) to the Tuesday morning," he said.
"Back in the 90s the club put in a drainage system and this has been the saviour from larger green damage."
Manager Tony Dunn said the clubhouse was thankfully saved from damage with water just starting to lap at the front door.
Decision was made for bowls to be cancelled for a week for green restoration to be made.
But good work by staff and volunteers, particularly on the synthetic, allowed limited play on Saturday.
The club's thoughts and prayers go out to the many people in NSW and Queensland who have lost everything.
Nothing comes easy in the unpredictable world we live in and it is a stark reminder to us all that a lot of people it will take possibly a lifetime to get back on their feet and we all share that struggle with them and assist in any way we can.
