The Michael Reid Southern Highlands gallery is going to welcome people between mid and late March in Berrima, where the former Baytree Gallery used to be.

The former gallery is currently being renovated and rebuilt for the incoming space.

Director chairman Michael Reid OAM said the new gallery would be an "enormous success".

"I see it as having a sense of sophistication but an arcadian sense of relaxation," he said.

The gallery in Berrima will be the second Michael Reid gallery in regional NSW, joining the one in Murrundi.

"I always think of the country, I have no fear of regional Australia," he said.

The charm of Michael Reid galleries has also been uniquely presented in two galleries in Sydney, and one in Berlin.

Mr Reid OAM said that there were many factors which influenced bringing a gallery to the Highlands.

One was that the Michael Reid team could see the "tree and sea change happening", which accelerated during the pandemic.

Many of the gallery's collectors, predominantly from Sydney, also relocated to the region, where the team had "an eye on Berrima for years".

The establishment of the Ngununggula gallery in Bowral also prompted finding a space.

"It's wonderful to be in the ecosystem of it," Mr Reid OAM said.

"We want Sydney sophistication experienced with regional hospitality."

"We're approachable."

Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase artworks, and can chat with staff who all reside in the Highlands.

The Michael Reid Southern Highlands gallery will have a soft-launch during the first week of March.

Renowned contemporary artist Lucy Vader and multimedia artist and inaugural Ngununggula exhibitor Tamara Dean, are some of the artists who will be showcased at the new space.
