On Sunday Jess stepped up onto the blocks to race against 110 other 14-year olds in the 50m freestyle. She came away with 11th place in a time of 28:06, narrowly missing the final by 0:01 of a second. Excitingly, this time qualifies her for the national titles.
On Monday she returned to the Olympic pool to compete in the 50m butterfly. In this event she placed 16th out of 75 others, in a time of 30:92.
Jess has continued to put every effort into her training with the Bluefit swim squad in Moss Vale, under head coach Ben Blaik. Her parents, Alyn and Christine, decided to enrol their three children in swimming lessons after watching them struggle at the beach one afternoon.
Jessica had her first lesson at the age of 10, quickly progressed through the levels, and then settled into squad training and joined the swimming club where she still spends her Friday nights endeavouring to beat her times.
Everyone at Moss Vale Swimming Club is extremely proud of her achievements and are looking forward to seeing what the rest of the year holds for her.
