But there's one place you wouldn't expect grass to grow, and that's on top of the concrete monolith on the main street - the mighty Big Potato.
Yet that's exactly where a lawn mower appeared this morning, with the addition providing a spark of humour on what has been a dreary, wet and cold day.
"I don't know they got it up there," said Neil Tait, owner of the Big Potato and the next-door Friendly Grocer.
"It must have been quite an effort."
He said that while he and the grocery store staff thought it was a laugh at first, now they're starting to wonder how it will come down.
"Does this mean I'll have to pay someone to remove it?" Mr Tait said.
The prank has stirred up all the wags on the town's Facebook site, with accusations and counter-accusations flying, though all in good fun.
Hopefully, the keen gardener will pack up his (or her) tools and put it away tonight.
