While sports like the rugby codes have been suspended since the start of July, local-based competition was largely able to continue.
That changed on the weekend with a number of Associations cancelling or postponing fixtures on Saturday morning as news of two Mittagong venues being named as exposure sights was reported.
Here's what we know so far about what sports are on. We'll continue to update as the week progresses.
Soccer
All Highlands Soccer Association games were called off last weekend in the wake of the news on Saturday.
Additionally, all Southern Tablelands Football Association games involving Highlands sides were cancelled as a precaution.
A decision is yet to be made about the upcoming weekend's fixtures but we will keep you updated as the situation progresses.
Netball
Last weekend's games were postponed but the Southern Highlands Netball Association will reassess the situation this week and are hoping to have the competition resume on Saturday.
Hockey
Competition was called off last weekend with no return date announced. Like netball and soccer, the Association will await further information before deciding when to restart.
Basketball
Local competition is on with participants and spectators required to follow some basic rules.
Rugby league
Both Group 6 and Group 7 remain indefinitely suspended.
Rugby union
The Illawarra Rugby Union was hopeful of finishing the season but that now looks increasingly unlikely. Discussions with clubs about rescheduling games are ongoing but the Bowral Blacks remain grounded for now.
Oxley College and Chevalier College rugby, as well as other Independent Schools Association sports, are postponed until further notice.
