NSW Small Business Commissioner appointed to look into small business challenges in the Highlands

Mr Lamont said the Minister for Small Business had requested he consult with members of the Wingecarribee business community, as well as the administrator and relevant council staff.

"I look forward to working with Business Illawarra, the local chambers of commerce and businesses across the region," he said,

Executive Director of Business Illawarra, Mr Adam Zarth, said that the appointment of Mr Lamont was an important step to addressing long standing concerns about the conditions for business in the Wingecarribee Shire

"The appointment of the Commissioner was called for last week by Business Illawarra, together with all three affiliated chambers of commerce in the region; the South Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Moss Vale and Rural Chamber of Commerce and Robertson Business Chamber," he said.

"Today we welcome the government's swift action in requesting that the Commissioner imminently commence work in the Wingecarribee Shire to understand and address the concerns faced by its business community."

"We expect there will soon be opportunities for local business people and their representatives to meet with the Commissioner in the Highlands, to have their say and ultimately to inform his report and advice to the administrator of Council, Mr Viv May."

"The Wingecarribee Shire has significant economic potential that we believe will greatly benefit from improvements to local government processes and look forward to the Commissioner's work commencing as a matter of priority."
