"As mentioned at last week's extraordinary meeting, I consider the appointment of a general manager to be a priority undertaking during my term as interim administrator of Wingecarribee Shire council," he said.
"I'm subsequently seeking two Highlands-based community representatives to join a specially convened panel to help determine the organisation's next general manager."
Community panel members will join Mr May and John Rayner, former long-serving general manager of Sutherland Shire Council and current special advisor and financial controller of Armidale Regional Council, on the selection panel.
Mr May said suspended or former councillors need not apply.
"Nor should prospective candidates for September's Local Government elections or council watchers," he said.
"Persons considering throwing their hat into the ring should be aware that this will be an onerous task that will require a considerable investment of their time.
"Applicants should be prepared for considerable reading and must undertake these duties in complete confidentiality."
An allowance will be provided to the successful community representatives.
The call to sit on the selection panel follows an extension to the close of the general manager vacancy until Tuesday, April 6.
Mr May said persons interested for consideration should briefly detail their experience in similar matters.
"This may include why they feel they should be considered for the panel and the attributes they believe should be considered for the vacant general manager's role," he said.
Community representatives wishing to apply should email Mr May direct at interim.admin@wsc.nsw.gov.au.
Nominations for community representative applications close 5pm, Thursday, April 8.
