Localised flash flooding was experienced in several areas and Wingecarribee SES were called to 85 jobs within an hour.
SES unit commander Heather Rowe said most of the call outs were for flash flooding in the Mittagong, Bowral and Burradoo areas.
She said that locations usually only impacted in major, extensive rain periods were flooded including Mittagong Road near Bowral pool and surrounding streets.
"It was a crazy night," she said, adding that she expected more of the same this afternoon (December 17).
Ms Rowe urged residents to clean their gutters if at all possible before this afternoon.
"A lot of the problems we tended to were caused by maintenance issues," she said.
The Wingecarribee SES went through three tonnes of sand for sandbagging overnight and Ms Rowe said more was on order and expected to be delivered to the SES headquarters in Mittagong this afternoon.

She added that people were welcome to come to the headquarters at 16 Bessemer Street, Mittagong, to fill or partially fill bags to protect their homes from possible flooding such as near doorways.
However she urged people to take only what they needed and to be considerate of others.
The Goulburn area fared a little better in the December 16 storm, however Goulburn SES responded to eight calls for assistance.
SES unit commander Steve Watson said northern villages including Tallong and Marulan "copped it".
He said the rail underpass on Highlands Way was flooded with about 100mm of water flowing across the road.
The unit was also called to clear trees and debris across several roads.
With the prospect of more stormy conditions ahead Mr Watson urged people to stay safe.
"Please don't drive into, play in or wade through flood waters," he said.
Mr Watson also urged people not to park their cars under trees.
He said that with several recent storms trees could have been weakened and there was the potential for more branches and trees to come down.
"Please stay safe and be aware of possible flooding in the area," he said.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology we can expect more stormy conditions this afternoon December 17 with the possibility of storms again on Friday afternoon, December 18.
The highest rainfall of 29.4mm was officially recorded at High Range's Wanganderry weather station on December 16. Meanwhile, 14mm was recorded at Taralga, 13.4mm at Moss Vale and Goulburn weather stations and 6.6mm at Braidwood.
Recorded levels were not available at the time of publishing for Mittagong and Bowral, however, Ms Rowe said one of her SES colleagues had reported about 85mm/per hour being collected at a property in Burradoo during the heaviest rainfall period early on Thursday evening.
Meanwhile an East Bowral resident said that his rain gauge overflowed at 15mm within the two hours from 4-6pm.
The temperature is expected to hit a top of 27 in Bowral on Thursday and Friday and a high (60 per cent Thursday, 80 per cent Friday) chance of rain and possible thunderstorms.
The mercury is forecast to hit 28 in Goulburn on December 17 and 27 on December 18. There is also a 60 per cent chance of showers and possible storms on both days.
Similar forecast applies for the Crookwell area with a top expected temperature of 27 today (Decemeber 17) and 25 tomorrow again with a 60 per cent chance of showers and possible storms forecaste for both days.
Weather conditions are expected to be milder over the weekend with lower temperatures and a reduced possibility of rain.
The forecast for Bowral is 17 on December 19 and 21 degrees on December 20 with cloudy conditions and a 30 per cent chance of showers on both days.
Goulburn's weekend forecast is for a top temperature of 20 on December 19 and a slightly higher temperature of 24 on December 20 with cloudy conditions and a 30 per cent possibility of showers on both days.
The forecast for Crookwell mirrors that of Goulburn.
The mild conditions are also expected to continue into the week start December 21.
