Wollondilly MP Nathaniel Smith said October's Mental Health Month was an opportunity for everyone to acknowledge the incredibly hard work of those in the mental health workforce and to establish new healthy habits that will benefit physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
"Boosting your mental fitness is about doing small everyday things that can help you build resilience, so you are better positioned to cope with life's ups and downs," he saod.
"More than ever, we need to be looking after ourselves, our family and our friends.
"This month, I encourage you to commit to do a few small things which can help boost your mental fitness."
The 10 Mental Fitness Challenges are:
1. Be kind to yourself
2. Spend time with family and friends
3. Do something kind for others
4. Spend some time in nature or with animals
5. Get plenty of sleep
6. Drink enough water and consider reducing your alcohol intake
7. Schedule some regular exercise
8. Try something new
9. Be present in the moment as often as possible
10. Check in with yourself and put your hand up for help if you need to
In 2019/20 the NSW Government has committed a record investment of $2.1 billion into mental health services for people living with mental illness, their families and carers.
