Leaving a legacy of good will and fair play to the game, kids this season will be playing their best and fairest cricket to have a chance at winning the Highland District Cricket Association's (HDCA) Ross Bull Junior Cricket Award.
Last season, in honour of Ross Bull, the HDCA struck the junior cricket ambassador award to recognise Ross' significant contribution to junior cricket and the disadvantaged youth in the Highlands.
Inaugural winners, Nicolas Heinecke and Noah Nasser were the proud joint recipients from last season.
HDCA junior cricket coordinator, Sam Nasser said that Ross Bull was a star of local cricket.
"He was such an icon of local cricket," Nasser said.
"He loved his Moss Vale Cricket Club, one of the oldest cricket clubs in Australia.
"His family put forward the idea of the award for him to be remembered. When the HDCA heard about it, they snapped it up immediately."
For players looking to be the next winners of the award, they will need to excel in the judging criteria that included.
- - Having a strong team first attitude,
- - Plays the game in an unselfish and highly "sportsman like" way,
- - Contributes back to the cricket club off the field in many ways,
- - Demonstrates compassion for others and passion for the game of cricket,
- - Gives their best effort all the time regardless of the outcome or the score, and
- - Embodies the MCC Spirit of Cricket in the way they play.
"It's all about good sportsmanship," Nasser said.
"It's about standing up for what the game of cricket is all about. There's plenty of awards that recognise the skills and attributes of good players.
"But we want to recognise the emerging good sportsmen as well."
Coaches will nominate players from their respected clubs, who they see fit the criteria for the award.
The HDCA looks forward to continuing the partnership with the Bull Family and encourages all junior players to strive in applying these attributes in season 20/21.
