Introducing BIG W Rap Books: a fun series which takes some of Australia's most-loved children's rhyming books and turns them into playful, fun raps for families to enjoy. After all... if it rhymes, it raps!
To bring BIG W Rap Books to life, BIG W has collaborated with critically acclaimed music producers and "top dog" Australian artists, Jessica Mauboy and Tom Thum, who have brought their unique "flavah" to the work of both new and established Australian children's authors, taking words and illustrations that are loved and adored by families, into a whole new world.
Jessica Mauboy said she had fun creating and recording the soundtrack to the BIG W Rap Books.
"I hope it will inspire families around Australia to put their own spin on their favourite books and I only hope they'll have as much fun as I did," she said.
"The opportunity to have a go at rapping and reimagining some iconic Aussie kids' books, that I know are loved by kids and parents around the nation, is so fresh and exciting to see come to life."
Author and illustrator of Dharma the Llama and Alpacas with Maracas Matt Cosgrove said hearing his stories brought to life with humour and creative talent brought him joy.
"BIG W has created something really special with Rap Books that I'm sure will help get kids excited and families engaging with books," he said.
Big W general manager of marketing Kristen Linders sid they were delighted with the concept of Big W rap books.
"We cannot wait for parents and kids to try rapping their favourite BIG W books from the collection," she said.
"Story time is so important in connecting families and we are constantly seeking new ideas and initiatives to help kids enjoy our range of books in new and unique ways."
BIG W Rap Books is housed on the BIG W Big Days at Home hub with tracks being released from Thursday October 1 to Sunday October 4 and available across all major music streaming platforms including Spotify, Amazon and Apple Music.
Additionally, parents are invited to give rapping a go with some fun karaoke versions of Jessica and Tom's raps which will also be available on the BIG W website. Share your beats on social media using #rapbooks.
For every listen on Spotify and YouTube, royalties will be donated to the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation, an organisation that shares BIG W's commitment to raising literacy levels in Australia.
