Now he's looking to take Bowral Bowling Club into the future.
Formally know as the secretary position, the newly named 'bowls coordinator' position is now held by Carl Spilker.
Spilker has taken over from much respected, former Bowral Bowling Club secretary, Dan Ticehurst.
Growing and expanding on Ticehurt's work, Spilker can't wait to get his hands dirty and bring lawn bowls to the modern front.
Playing lawn bowls for only three years now, Spilker has naturally taken to the sport and felt right at home at the club.
"I began playing lawn bowls in July of 2017," Spilker said.
"I had a few mates at Bowral Bowling Club that played, and I also did contract work for the club.
"Josh Woodcock and Dugald Braithwaite told me to come have a roll one time over some beers and I loved it.
"Through my line of work, I own a franchise of the Australian Poker League and ran trivia nights at the club. I was spending quite a bit of time at the club, got to know a lot of the patrons, directors and I've been here since."
Quickly becoming a well known face about Bowral Bowling Club Spilker is a highly respected player and member. Now he wants to use his wealth of knowledge and give back to the club he loves.
"I've got experience in event management and a event management diploma," Spilker said.
"With my line of work I have experience managing large groups of people. The last three years I've absorbed how the game of bowls works, and the workings of the club.
"I've been the Bowral Bowling Club vice president for the past two years and I was able to identify some problems that the club has in regards to lawn bowls.
"I feel I can rectify those problems and send the club in a northerly direction."
Going forward as bowls coordinator, Spilker has plans to bring the Bowral Bowling Club and the game of lawn bowls itself into the future.
"What I'd like to do is refine the bowls operations," Spilker said.
"I'd like to smooth those out firstly.
"Due to the previous years of this position being voluntary, I've stepped in as a paid role, being able to use expertise and management skills, I'm able to have the club operate a little bit better, if you like.
"I want to commercialise the sport. We'll be looking at setting up live streaming of our tournaments.
"I want to really expose the club to NSW and the nation. We want to make Bowral Bowling Club a place where people drop by if they're near.
"Lawn Bowls will always be here. Because it's not a mainstream sport, there isn't really full-time, professional bowlers like you see in the AFL or NRL.
"That then means there's very little money in the sport. That makes it difficult for bowling clubs to survive and operate.
"I'd like to use the live streaming services we're incorporating, create a YouTube channel that will provide good quality matches people can view, and that in turn will generate publicity and create money.
"The difficult thing is that when people come in and see a lawn bowls match, most players are generally seniors.
"The Australian national team average age is 26. Because the game isn't on mainstream television stations, the game is somewhat overlooked by younger people.
"We need to change that and we need to be looking for younger people in the Bowral community to assist the club in ensuring its future."
Outgoing former secretary, Dan Ticehurst is very well respected by his fellow club members and Spilker wants to ensure that everyone remembers the hard work Ticehurst put into the club.
"We truly do appreciate what Dan has done for Bowral Bowling Club," Spilker said.
"It was a voluntary position and he was only supposed to be stepping in until the club found somebody.
"We hold our annual triples tournament every year around September, October. We will be naming that tournament after Dan and calling it 'Dan Ticehurt's Spring Triples'.
"That is what we have done in his honour."
