The letter requests she exercise further powers under a Performance Improvement Order to place the council in a limited mode until the next local government elections in September 2021.
The ten community associations to sign the letter are:
- Friends of Wingecarribee Inc.
- Balmoral Village Association
- Berrima Residents Association Inc.
- Friends of Bowral Inc.
- Colo Vale Community Association
- Exeter Village Association
- Hill Top Community Association
- Penrose Community Association
- Robertson Futures Group
- Wingello Village Association
Two special restrictions have been requested of Minister Hancock:
1. That a financial controller be appointed by the Office of Local Government to ensure that ratepayer funds are protected, and major decisions monitored and approved by the financial controller.
2. That the position of general manager remains vacant until the September 2021 council elections, to enable the newly elected councillors to appoint the general manager.
In addition, the minister has been asked to request an investigation into both the councillors and senior council staff to explore perceived operational performance issues and to identify any concerns about the well being of council staff.
Local State representatives, Wendy Tuckerman MP and Nathaniel Smith MP, are supportive of action being taken by the minister to address disharmony within council.
