For older residents, this can be even more tricky.
A new service for residents in the Highlands will help older citizens who need a hand when it comes to accessing services through the My Aged Care system.
Wingecarribee Shire Council, along with Meals and Wheels Southern Highlands and Macarthur Disability Services, have partnered to develop the Southern Highlands Aged Care Concierge service.
A pilot program which has been in operation for just a few weeks, it aims to help those who use My Aged Care navigate the system and access services through it.
The service will provide residents with a one-on-one meeting to help the address any issues they might have.
"It came out of a number of local aged care services recognising that the system in place can be a little challenging for older people to navigate and understand," Meals on Wheels Southern Highlands manager Debbie Smith said.
"It's a support service to offer assistance. There is the challenge of accessing services to find out who is available for domestic assistance, meals or whatever they need. The concierge is just someone to help them through the process."
Ms Smith said the program could help people register for My Aged Care, and then help them follow up after their assessment to get the right services for them.
"Its very much about general assistance and finding out what is available in the area. The program was established looking at local need."
The program will run one day a week at Queen Street Community Centre in Moss Vale.
"We want to be there for the people who need it. If they can't make it [on the day] we'll call them and work out a way to help," Ms Smith said.
