The dream become reality in 2016 when Georgie Lewis was offered a sporting scholarship to a college of her choosing after completing her year 12 studies in 2020.
Georgie signed with Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa in January of this year, and now she's finally on her way to fulfill her dreams.
"I'm pretty excited and nervous to be leaving Australia on Sunday (August 9)," Georgie said.
"I've got three flights and I'll be heading straight to campus.
"I have three days of quarantine when I land, but I get straight into soccer training after. It's full on. I'll be studying criminology when I'm there also and that's really exciting."
Having this dream on her mind for the past four years, the COVID pandemic has made the transition to college difficult.
"I am a little nervous about the COVID-19 situation," Georgie said.
"It is frustrating. Very frustrating. I was supposed to be leaving in January 2021. But, I got the travelling exemption and emergency visa.
"I was told it could be delayed, but this ensures I make it over there in time.
"But, I guess that's what I've got to do if I want to go after my dreams. I have to go through that risk."
