Police are searching for a man following a stabbing in Mittagong.
Southern Highlands Officer-in-Charge Chief Inspector John Klepczarek addressed the media this morning March 11 at 11 am.
Chief Inspector Klepczarek said that the lines of inquiry are open.
"Whilst inquiries are continuing, at the time of the alleged stabbing there were a number of people inside the home," he said.
"They are currently here at Southern Highland Police Station assisting police and giving statements about what has occurred.
"There are a number of lines of inquiries that we are looking at. We are keeping an open mind and not ruling out anything."
A dog squad unit from Wollongong are canvassing the local area.
"[The dog squad unit] has come out and tracked a scent along Owen Street in Mittagong and in to the bush," Chief Inspector Klepczarek said.
"Unfortunately that wasn't successful at the that time.
"We are also relying on a little bit of CCTV footage that we've managed to find to identify the offender."
Chief Inspector Klepczarek said that they did not have a clear description of the offender.
"We have witnesses being spoken to by detectives as we speak, we're hoping to have a clearer picture of who the person of interest may be," he said.
"At this stage we don't believe it's a random attack. From what we have gathered this morning these people may be known to each other but we are appealing to members of the public if they have any information.

"Owen Street at Mittagong does lead to some fire trails and some tracks at the back and we know that there are some walkers in morning who do frequent that area.
"So if anybody between 6:45 am and 7am saw anybody running on Owen Street or running in to the fire trails, if they could please contact Southern Highlands Police or if they would like to remain anonymous to call Crimestoppers.
"Southern Highlands continues to be one of the safest places in the Southern Region. That's why when something like this occurs, it does attract strict police attention and also from the community who won't tolerate this sort of behaviour either.
"As a result we expect information to come forward from the community and we do expect an arrest on this matter."
