The gardens committee was in the process of organising a community celebration at the gardens on March 28.
However, SHBG CEO Charlotte Webb has confirmed that the event and sculpture exhibition will be held at "later date" yet to be determined.
Ms Webb said the decision had been prompted by the current health concerns regarding COVID-19 and a directive from the Australian Federal Government to ban large scale events.

She said the inaugural sculpture competition and sustainability event was to have been held in conjunction with Wingecarribee Shire Council.
"While we are disappointed, under the current COVID-19 circumstances, we believe this is the responsible action to be taken at this time," she said.
"We look forward to welcoming everyone to the rescheduled event, including the sculpture competition, in due course."
The Botanic Gardens on the corner of Old South and Kangaloon Roads will continue to be open to the public from 9am to 5pm daily.
