"With so many people losing homes and our hard working RFS volunteers out working ridiculously long hours to keep our area safe from the impending fires, we felt that it was not an appropriate time to be fundraising for our own benefit," said Hockey Club president Ben Wright.
The RHC executive got together and made the decision for the month of January they would donate all the funds raised from their Wednesday night meat raffle, held at the Robertson Bowling Club, to the local Robertson RFS.
The first evening the raffle ran they managed to raise over $300, and over the next few weeks pushed it to $800.
"The patrons were so giving knowing the money was going to somewhere so deserving," said Ben. "At the time everyone seemed to be looking at a way to give back to those involved in the fire tragedy. The Robertson community were just so generous and their support of the raffle was greatly appreciated by both the Robertson Hockey Club and the Robertson RFS."
Robertson RFS has said they already have plans for spending the donation, anywhere from new wet weather gear to a new electric chainsaw, adding that they're very grateful for this and other community donations.
