Southern Highlands Rural Fire Service volunteers, Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters and their families will receive complimentary food and drinks at a thank you event at the Highlands Hotel (formerly the Lion Rampant Hotel).
The event will be held at 75 Main Street, Mittagong from 4pm until late on Saturday, March 7.
Appreciative residents Ros Kelly, David Morgan and their family wanted to do something to show their appreciation for the firefighters who kept the Highlands community safe over summer.
"We were here during the fire threats, and obviously we all dealt with the smoke," Ros said.
"But we were very worried when we had two fires [the Green Wattle Creek and Morton fires] coming at us.
"Every day I realised how much we depended on those firefighters to keep those fires away from us.
"They were putting their lives at risk for us, the ordinary people."
There will be a children's jumping castle from 4pm and music by an '80s DJ from 8pm.
The event has been organised with the support of Steve Evans of Brewsters Café in Mittagong and Brett and Maz Tonkison at the Highlands Hotel.
It is free to firefighters and their families, however organisers ask attendees to bring their membership on the day.
Anyone who is not a firefighter is welcome to attend, celebrate and show their appreciation to our firefighters by paying their own way.
