The Southern Highlands Business Women's Network will host a luncheon to celebrate International Women's Day 2020 on March 4 at Bowral Golf Club.
This year's theme will be "Better the Balance. Better the World" and will include a two course lunch hosted by Kirstine McKay.
Kirstine McKay has more than 12 years experience as reporter for Channel Nine and will conduct live interviews with three inspirational women, sharing their stories and asking for advice on how we can all play a positive role in forging a more gender inclusive working world.
Guest speakers will include proud Gundungurra woman and knowledge holder (elder) Aunty Trish Levett, Lynne Derwin and Kristie Phelan.
Aunty Trish Levett works in the Illawarra at the Aboriginal Medical Service in the Cancer Care team and runs a business on the side called Rite BakAtcha Dreaming. She teaches traditional language, culture, bush medicines and dance throughout many communities and runs cultural healing workshops.
Lynne Derwin is a survivor of the Victorian Black Saturday bushfires in 2009 which destroyed her vineyard, restaurant and cellar door in the Yarra Valley. Her training as a pilot helped her keep her nerve as she and her husband fled to the nearest town.
Berrima born Kristie Phelan has worked for more than 30 years in television after kickstarting her career as a cadet at ABC. Kristie has worked on Quantum, Countrywide, The Factory, Good Morning Australia, TVTV, and she produced the entertainment news for Sir Bob Geldof's iconic Big Breakfast in London with over 15 million viewers each day.
Now back in the Highlands Kristie is passionate about creativity, collaboration and community and has produced and promoted local art events, exhibitions, and fundraisers such as the 'Hillview Scuplture Biennial', 'Eve on the Green', 'A Butcher, A Baker, A Bunch of Makers' and more. Kristie is currently on the Arts Advisory Committee for Council, the Arts and Culture Key Stakeholders Group and is busy on the Working Committee with artist Ben Quilty to help create the new Southern Highlands Regional Gallery at Retford Park.
The luncheon will begin at 11:30 am - 2:30 pm at the Bowral Golf Club, corner of Kangaloon Road and David Street. To book and purchase tickets, click here. It's $65 for members of the Southern Highlands Business Women's Network and $75 for non members.
