Roads and Maritime Services director of operations Jonathon Crocker said lengthy delays could be avoided by planning ahead.
"We've used a combination of traffic data from previous years and predictive analytics to help motorists better understand what to expect on their journeys," Mr Crocker said.
"Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, get a good night's sleep before they travel and take regular breaks."
High volumes of holiday traffic are expected at Pheasants Nest from October 4 to 7.
This could cause significant delays for up to 40 minutes travelling through Pheasants Nest on the Hume Motorway.
For drivers making a northbound return trip on Monday, October 7 between 12pm and 3pm there will be delays of up to 10 minutes.
Between 3pm and 6pm there will be delays of up to 40 minutes, and between 6pm and 9pm motorists can expect delays of up to 30 minutes.
