"I got to a point in my life where I needed to find a stable career and set up for my family and try to set an example for the little one," he said.
"I've never been the type of person that sits behind a desk. I was a tradie prior to [joining the force]."
For Constable Cox, the best part of the joining the police force is the sense of doing something that matters.
"You get to see the effects on the community. Just recently we've gone to schools, just interacting with kids and [there's a feeling] of just accomplishing something."
As for Constable Cox's least favourite part of the job, it's the paper work.
"I've never been one to sit and do paper work so that's probably it at the moment but it's part and parcel of the job."
As someone who joined the police force after gaining life experience first, Constable Cox has some sage words for people who are keen to join the police force at a later stage.
"It is a lot of work, once you have families or mortgages it can be a hard process [but] for me, the time, the money and time away from my family - come graduation day - it's all worth it."
