The movie depicts the actions of D Company, sixth Battalion Royal Australian Regiment on August 18 1966.
In the rain, amid the mud and shattered trees of a rubber plantation called Long Tan, Major Harry Smith led 108 young Australian and New Zealand men in battle.
The soldiers held off 2500 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese soldiers for three and a half hours.
There were 18 Australian and more than 500 enemy casualties.
Proceeds from the screening will go to the Southern Highlands Vietnam Veterans Association, which was established in 2002 and has more than 40 members.
The servicemen's association promotes the welfare and well being of veterans and their families and fosters community understanding of the war in South Vietnam and its impact on those who participated in it.
The organisation believes with the declining number of Vietnam veterans it is important to document some of their experiences , thoughts and feelings: before, after and during the war.
Some of the proceeds will be used to collect material, write and publish a book about Southern Highland veteran experiences.
High School students from the region will collect oral histories for the book.
The book will be published with assistance from the Berrima District Historical and Family History Society.
The screening will be held on August 8 when the film is released in Australia.
Tickets cost $25, include light refreshments and are available from the Empire Cinema in Bowral.
