A 63-year-old Como man was behind the wheel of a B-double truck when he lost control just after 3am, according to Southern Highlands Police.
Southern Highlands Police officer-in-charge Inspector John Klepczarek said the man crossed the verge between northbound and southbound then back to northbound lanes, where the truck came to a rest of the railing.
The cabin of the truck became wedged against the steel guards and the trailer both northbound lanes.
Police, paramedics and traffic crews attended the scene, which was cleared by 5.30am.
Inspector Klepczarek asked anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
"Police are conducting an investigation. If anyone has information, please get in contact with police," he said.
The driver was taken to Bowral and District Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.
