Key among the recommendations undertaken by the independent reviewer was that council lease the saleyards. Council's preference is that this new lease arrangement starts from the first quarter of next year with any potential lessee committing to a long-term arrangement.

This recommendation should quash any rumours that the SRLX is for sale!

Importantly for council, this report is the first of a total of 30 service delivery reviews. On completion, these reviews will assess and benchmark all of council's core customer services.

Another service delivery review currently underway is on council's waste management services.

As part of this assessment the reviewer is seeking feedback from residents via a survey into a range of local waste related issues including kerbside collections, waste disposal, recycling, illegal dumping and the running of Council's Resource Recovery Centre.

THIS WEEKEND is of course Easter, followed shortly thereafter by Anzac Day next Thursday, April 25.

Take extra care on our roads as both events are sure to attract extra people to our shire. Venues like our churches, cenotaphs and memorials will be busier than normal.

Anzac Day promises to be particularly poignant as the country pauses to commemorate the 104th anniversary of the landing of the first wave of Australian and New Zealand troops on the shores of Gallipoli in 1915.

At the close of this bitter campaign, more than 50,000 Allied troops and 86,000 men from the Ottoman Empire had fallen. The number of Australian dead alone exceeded 8,700.
