Whether you are an experienced forager or simply a fungus lover there are plenty of opportunities to make the most of the season.
Below is a selection of mushroom related events coming up in the region.
A Fungi Feast at The Loch
The Loch will host a seven-course degustation menu which will feature the rich and aromatic flavours of local exotic mushrooms and truffles. The event will be held on June 30. Cost is $145 or $195 with wine. Tickets available soon. Visit www.theloch.net.au for more information.
Earthly Incarnations: An Introduction to the Fungi of Retford Park
A workshop will be held at Retford park to teach gardeners that fungi are friends, not foes. The interactive event will introduce participants to the diversity, ecology and curiosities of the kingdom of fungi. The event will be held on May 9 from 10am. Risotto ai funghi cooking demonstration and winemakers tour at Southern Highlands Winery
Southern Highlands Winery will host a class on the art of creating the perfect mushroom risotto. Foodies will get the opportunity to learn more about the produce and mushrooms found in the region. The event will include a glass of wine on arrival, a cooking demonstration, winemakers talk and a two-course dinner. The demonstration will be held on April 26 from 6pm. Cost is $65 per person. Wild Food Adventures mushroom foraging at Penrose Forest
Wild Food Adventures will host four mushroom foraging workshops. The tour will feature advice for harvesting pine and slippery jack mushrooms as well as a cooking demonstration and a light lunch. Finding Feasts foraging tours
Katrina and Izabella from Finding Feasts will oversee mushroom foraging tours. They will teach attendees how to find and identify wild mushrooms. The event includes lunch, a cooking demonstration and a basketful of goodies to take home. Visit www.findingfeasts.com.au for more information.
