In July of 2018, Autism Spectrum Australia (ASPECT) revised its autism prevalence rates from 1 in 100 to 1 in 70. This represents a 40 percent increase and equates to approximately 353,880 Australians.
The word ‘spectrum’ describes the range of difficulties that people on the autism spectrum may experience and the degree to which they may be affected.
ASDESI (Autism Spectrum Disorder Education, Support and Information) is a support program managed by Interchange Australia to provide services to families with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The ASDESI program was initiated by Kollege of Knowledge Kommittee for Kids (KKKK) and provides a range of services for families caring for a young person with ASD. Services are individually tailored and include:
- Parent and carer information and education;
- Social support for children and young people of various ages and with varying interests;
- case management; and
- activities including – Holiday Kids Klub, music, siblings group, family conferences and special interest days.
Each year, Interchange Australia co-hosts an event to raise awareness of autism and the ASDESI Program to coincide with World Autism Awareness Day.
This year, we are inviting the community to Bradman Oval on Tuesday, April 2 from 4-6pm to learn more about autism, the ASDESI Program and to participate in a variety of cricket activities conducted by Coverdrive on the iconic oval.
Tickets are $10 for ASDESI and Coverdrive members and $25 for the general public. Ticket price covers the entire family and includes entry, canapes, refreshments and participation.
Tickets are available from the Interchange Australia office located at 3 Forest Lane, Bowral, and from the Bradman Museum and Bradman Café located at St Jude Street, Bowral. For more information, please call Joseph Lyons on 1300 112 334.
