Southern Highlands students are going on strike from school to urge politicians to take urgent action on climate change and to stop coal mining in the region.
The move coincides with a world-wide initiative on March 15 in which young people will take leave from school to demand urgent political action on a key environmental matter.
Bowral Public School students, Josh and Tomas McKay, will be among those making a stand for a cause close to their heart.
Proud Mum, Kristine McKay, is thrilled that her children are proactive on the issue of climate change.
"Children are very knowledgeable and understand what's happening in the world," Kristine said.
"They [children] feel empowered and have a strong voice about decisions that will impact their future."
The Australian school strike movement started in 2018 by students in Central Victoria who were inspired by similar movements overseas.
In November 2018, 15,000 Australian school students walked out of the classroom to demand action on climate change from prime minister Scott Morrison.
Students and members of the community have been invited to participate on the day.
The strike is not associated with schools in the area and is run independently by students.
