NSW Shadow Minister for roads, maritime and freight, Jodi Mckay and Labor Candidate for Goulburn, Ursula Stephens, made the announcement on February 25.
The money would be provided to the Wingecarribee Shire Council and is part of a $900 million Rural Roads Program which would be dedicated to the improvement of rural and country roads.
The announcement comes as a result of numerous complaints made by residents and emergency services regarding the safety of the road.
The current state of the road prohibits school buses, gas trucks and the NRMA from access.
Labor would provide the funds for council to undertake major repair work which would include filling in potholes, installing safety rails and sealing the road.
“Labor will make Wombeyan Caves Road safe for local residents. It’s not too much to ask to have a safe route for travelers, school buses and emergency service vehicles," Mckay said.
“Making Wombeyan Caves Road safer will also mean up to double the number of visitors coming to the Wombeyan Caves National Park. That will bring more tourism jobs.”
Ursula Stephens was also happy with the announcement.
"I’m pleased to have been able to secure this funding commitment. Today’s commitment will deliver a safer Wombeyan Caves Road," she said.
