High Range resident Charlie Fenton has been in the hotels business for more than 40 years, with hotels and motels across NSW including in the Southern Highlands and Sydney.
Mr Fenton said one of his main priorities for the Highlands was promoting tourism.
“We’re only an hour and a half from the centre of Sydney,” he said.
“I’d like to see the Southern Highlands being promoted more [by Destination NSW].”
Mr Fenton said other priorities included the creation of more cookery apprenticeships, lobbying for an additional school in the Northern Villages and improving train services to Sydney.
He also said he would focus on the establishment of an equestrian centre in the Highlands and opening up national parks such as Nattai National Park.
If elected, Mr Fenton said he would like to open an office in the Wingecarribee.
“We need representation down this end,” he said.
“I’d certainly like to have some sort of office in the Highlands and the Wollondilly.”
Mr Fenton was announced as the candidate at the Royal Hotel in Bowral earlier this week.
