Parkinson's Support
The final meeting for 2018 of the Southern Highlands Parkinson's Support Group will be an informal Christmas gathering on December 11. It will take the form of a bistro lunch in the Springs Room of the Mittagong RSL at 11.30 am. All are welcome. The first meeting for 2019 will be held on February 19 at 10.00am in the same venue. Coffee and chat at Bradman Cafe, 9.30am Saturdays and optional nordic pole walking from Bowral Swimming Pool carpark to Bradman Cafe will continue throughout summer. Bowral CWA
Bowral CWA branch will hold its next meeting on December 11 from 1.30pm. This will be held in the CWA rooms in Wingecarribee Street, Bowral, (adjacent to Corbett Gardens). The gathering will take a festive form and will include a Christmas themed afternoon tea. Come and make new friends and enjoy some festive fun with afteroon tea which will be served following the meeting. For further information call 4861 5425.
VIEW Club
Southern Highlands Evening VIEW Club will hold its next meeting on December 10 at 6.30 pm for a 7 pm start. This will be held at the Mittagong RSL Club and will be the club’s Christmas dinner so come along and enjoy the Christmas spirit with your friends. Entertainment will be provided by Virginia Kidd. VIEW is a part of The Smith Family and raises funds to support disadvantaged children through the Learning for Life program.
First Fleeters
Members of the Fellowship First Fleeters Southern Highlands Chapter will hold their 14th annual lunch celebrating the Fellowship’s 50th year on December 12. Entertainment will be provided by David Johnson from the Paddy River Band. Toastmasters
The Southern Highlands Toastmasters meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at Mittagong RSL Club from 7.30pm. Come and learn how to speak in public in a relaxed environment. Details: Colin Emerson on 0429 389 744.
Morning tea and support
Every Friday morning between 10am and midday the foyer of the Mittagong Anglican Church is open to the public for free morning tea. The church’s professional barista knows how to make one of the best coffees in town. A professional counsellor offering free support to those who might want to talk privately is also available. Come and join the group and make new friends in a relaxed and warm environment. St. Stephens Church is on the corner of Station and Main Streets and has been reaching out to the community for more than 140 years.
Tai Chi
Test you strength and agility with Tai Chi classes held at the Mittagong Senior’s Club located next to the Mittagong Library. Classes are held each Tuesday from 1pm.
Seniors' Club
Mittagong Seniors’ Club meets each Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 2.30pm at the Community Centre in Queen Street, Mittagong. Come for morning tea at 10am to learn more. Activities include craft, games, ukulele and various outings.
JP services
The Southern Highlands Justice of the Peace Branch of the NSW Justice Association will be close its community desks across the region during the Christmas New Year break. The final day for desk operations in 2018 are: Springetts Arcade Bowral – Wednesday, December 12; Moss Vale SUPA IGA – Thursday December 13; Mittagong Market Place – Friday and Saturday December 14 and 15. Due to public request and support from venue management all JP desks will re-open earlier in 2019. Re-opening times are: Mittagong Market Place – Friday and Saturday January 4 and 4; Springetts Arcade Bowral - Wednesday January 9 and Supa IGA Moss Vale - Thursday January 10.
Floral arts
The NSW Floral Art Association Inc Floral Design Competition and Demonstrations will be held on February 1 and 2, 2019, at Mittagong RSL Club on the corner of Old Hume Highway and Bessemer Street, Mittagong. The event will run from 9.45am to 4.30pm on the Friday and from 10am to 12.30pm on Saturday. The program includes a display of floral designs by highly qualified exhibitors and various floral art demonstrations including Ikebana by Vesna Isik, a sought after Ikebana designer and teacher who travels extensively to bring new ideas and techniques to her classes.
