The first is our Environment and Sustainability team who took home a shared trophy at the recent national Cities Power Partnership Summit.
The group is part of a team of five regional councils who shared the award for their role in establishing the South East Buddies Group. As part of this group, the team pool resources, strategies and experiences on energy efficiency programs.
The team was also recognised for the work they’ve undertaken as part of council’s Lighting the Way – Southern Highlands Street Lighting Upgrade (SHSLU) project. Together with Endeavour Energy, the SHSLU project has achieved a substantial reduction in energy consumption by replacing 2,000 old street lights across the shire with new energy-efficient LED lights.
The other group to be honoured was council’s tourism team, who took home the Destination Marketing category at last month’s Canberra Region Tourism awards.
Having recently secured a silver medal at the national Tourism Awards, the Mittagong-based team followed it up with gold at Canberra for this year’s Pie Time tourism campaign. Now in second year, the month-long celebration is estimated to have injected more than $2 million into the local economy.
A QUICK reminder that there’s only two weeks left to donate to the Mayor’s Giving Tree.
The tree is located in the foyer of the council’s customer service centre in Elizabeth Street, Moss Vale.
Non-perishable food stuffs and gifts for children are the most sought after items. The only restriction we ask is to not wrap the gifts.
All donations will be passed onto the local branch of the Salvation Army, where they will be sorted before being distributed in time for Christmas Day.
