Centre Manager Gareth Horner explained said Special Olympics was a global movement that used sport to improve the lives of people with an intellectual disability.
“The Come and Try Swim Meet is all about giving our shire’s residents living with a disability the opportunity to have some fun and perhaps give one of the swimming events a go.”
The day will feature regular and short-swim events for athletes with a disability with all participants receiving a ribbon for competing.
Entry to the Special Olympics Come and Try Swim Meet is open and free to all athletes regardless of age or ability.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced champion or just starting out,” Horner said.
“Everyone is welcome to join in regardless of age or ability.
“Our state-of-the-art aquatic and exercise centre is heated year round and has full access. We think it’s the perfect venue to host this special event and look forward to a great day of fun.”
