The 10 members of the Benton CrossFit Gym in Braemar competed in the huge Belly of the Beast CrossFit contest at the CrossFit Valve gym near Bankstown, which attracted CrossFitters from across the greater Sydney region.
Despite only doing CrossFit for a total of nine months between them, Benton members Tom Hart and Jesse Fitzpatrick finished the men’s duo open division in first place, with the event their first CrossFit competition.
Hart, who only started doing CrossFit after joining Benton Gym three months ago, said he was “stoked” with the result.
“I’m stoked at our win. I think we surprised ourselves but it shows that the hard work we do at Benton Crossfit pays off. Training with like-minded people and with great coaches really helps me. I can’t wait to do more comps.”

Ricky Garard and Tyler Hickey competed together in the advanced men’s category and finished second while Justin Burton and Ben Claphan came seventh in the men’s open division.
And Sean Jones teamed with Chris Hilder to finish in 12th place in the advanced men’s category.
The competition included workouts that featured a mix of weightlifting, kettlebell exercises, burpees, rope climbs, assault bike sprints, push ups and gymnastics.
